Sears Drama Festival

Once again this year, Woodroffe HS hosted the 2010 Ottawa Distrist Sears Drama Festival on April 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th. Our festival stage managers were former student Matthieu Corriveau and current student Matthew Marshall who were assisted by lighting technicians VJ Mielke and Thomas Dawes, sound technician Alanna Fernet and photographer Laurence Facun.  Special thanks go out to our teachers Ms. Ruth Merkel, Ms. Christy Stanhope and Ms. Gunter-Woods, Mr. Dalton Cluff and our amazing custodial team for their time and effort in making this year's festival a success.  One exciting feature returning to the Ottawa festival after a long absence was its bilingual nature with bilingual MCs, a bilingual adjudicator Isabelle Beslisle and French language productions by two different French language boards.

Congratulations goes out to the cast and crew of SHELLSHOCK , Woodroffe's entrant in this year's festival.  Shellshock, an original student play, explores the traumatic effects of war on an innocent civilian.  It's a story of love and faith, and of trying to survive whien if feels like there is nothing to live for.  Our special felicitations go out to Allie Grant as her acting  in the lead role as Melissa was given an  Award of Merit, and to Kelsey Hicks who also recieved an award of merit for her writing.  Kelsey's script has now been submitted for the provincial 2010 Wayne Fairhead New Play Award.  We wish her the best of luck.
